Tonight was our second Book Club meeting! White Oleander by Janet Fitch was the book choice (last month was The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver). I’ve read two of Janet Fitch’s works now (the other is Paint It Black), and if you haven’t had the pleasure of reading her stuff, I highly suggest you go to the library tomorrow. Yes, the library, because it’s economical. Janet Fitch has this raw poetic writing style that just sucks me in like quicksand. White Oleander is a beautifully dark story about a girl’s relationship with her mother and her journey through the foster care system. It’s really like nothing else I’ve read before. I felt like I was submerged in a lonely pit of darkness throughout the entire book, but I couldn’t put it down. This book might not be for everyone though, as I tend to take a morbidly perverse pleasure in dark and depressing stories. Two thumbs up!
On an entirely different note, I just bought a new Sephora nail polish shade…In the Shadows…a lovely brown shade, which I’m about to apply 🙂
To all a good night!
